For many people springtime starts with bud-dotted branches and green unmown grass, but for AOH spring awakening was quick and rather sudden – with the Most Promising Game Award at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Even alongside numerous promising projects from all around the globe, COFA games team succeeded in becoming the “Best Pitch” of the conference, which is one of the greatest accomplishments in the upcoming games’ industry.
The Game Developers Conference is the world’s largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event. This conference attracts over 26,000 attendees, and is the primary forum where programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in the development of interactive games gather to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry.
There were many interesting activities at the GDC, but the most significant one for us was the GTD Pitch – part of the conference in which game developers pitch to an opinionated panel of investors and publishers, in front of a live audience. Each selected team had 5 minutes for the pitching, which was always followed by questions, advice, and feedback from the judges. That was our chance to share the idea of the Awakening with well-known investors (like Execution Labs, London Venture Partners, Signia Ventures…), famous publishers and other notables in the gaming industry.
Just like the first pasque flower after a long chilly season, this presentation was our first step on the path of challenges that are waiting for us in 2016. And, if we may say, it was very a successful step – GDC helped us not only to spread the word about the game, but also to get some important first-hand information on how experienced people in the gaming industry rate our project. The comments were exceptionally good, leaving us both satisfied with the work we’ve done so far and inspired to continue with improving the game and participating in other similar events.
